Wow. That's pretty crazy! I can't even imagine some of the things you see at work. This post makes me want to go donate blood! :)
please do share details (I live it through you)! I would FREAK out though if I got blood on me, I scrubbed down after every shift. Sad that I've never donated blood....I hate needles (in me), but I know I should do it.
Wow, looks kind of messy. I could only imagine what happened. I like to hear the details, but I don't think I could see the actual event. Nurses are a special breed to see all of that and not faint or barf.
Trisha we will have to talk. Just imagine... Portal hypertension, esophageal varicies, post TIPS procedure, BLEEDING, blakemore tube, MORE BLEEDING, perforated esophagus, blood warmers, unit after unit transfusions until OR(Did I mention the pneumo). Post op... coag's off the charts, more BLEEDING, more transfusions, 4:1 pt, I am relief charge, BP in the 60's, running to bloodbank, pressors, fluids, chest tube site bleeding, bed saturated, stabalized. Wheww.
Had to see go see another pt on floor with GI bleed. Stable for now. Right before change of shift pt emergently transfered to unit BLEEDING! Pale, eyes rolling back, barley has BP, placing lines, transfusing blood products, Code Blue, regain pluse and BP, pt to interventional radiology= celiac artery bleed.
Very eventful couple of shifts!
And F.Y.I- I WAS completely FREAKING out about the bloody shoes!!!!! I think that was a first. Luckily the scrubs only had a few drops and it was right before I was going home. I am surprised I didn't put the shoes in the trash right then and there!
WOW, you are a brave little nurse..
Can't you wear something like the docs do? like covering over your shoes?? I used to donate blood once in awhile, but I stopped as I was told I have antibodies D and could only be used for "platles"? (SP) So I just don't do it anymore.. OK nurse should I still be giving blood??
