Sneaky, sneaky

What do you get when you put a daddy with a guilty conscience and
a box of pop'ems
together with a sad, pleading 4 yr old little boy?
Something like this...

So we got home tonight after a fun dinner at Islands with the Hess's (finally!!) and the minute we walk in the front door Porter is already saying he is hungry... of course! He didn't eat much of his dinner and was complaining at the restaurant that he "had a tummy ache". So when he started begging and pleading for a donut hole I told him "No". (About 50 times) As you can imagine the tears came as well as the Oscar winning performance of "the STARVING" child.

* Now for a little background info... Ryan has been working TONS (9-10hr days and every Saturday) the last 3 weeks or so and hasn't been around much. *

As I continue sorting the mail, I all of a sudden realize that the crying has stopped. I look up to see Porter and Ryan "briskly" walking down the hall to the boys room and faintly hear some whispering from Ryan. A minute or two goes by before I realize what just happened. Ryan being the "good guy" (this is where the guilty conscience comes in from not being around much lately!) has given Porter the donut and told him to go hide and not let mom see! And that is exactly what he did!

Oh my Sneaky, sneaky boys!!

Can't think of a better way to kick off the weekend!
A yummy chocolate malt from Ruby's
And a great beach sunset!

Weekends are a bit like rainbows; they look good from a distance but disappear when you get up close to them-

Never say Never

Yesterday was an eventful day here at the Rosenlof home. After lots of thought and consideration we traded in our...
TAHOE
For a MINIVAN! Now for those of you who know me probably know that, up until about 72 hrs ago, I said that I would NEVER drive a minivan. No offense to all of you out there who do drive minivans but I have just always refused the idea. (Clearly I thought I was much too cool for a minivan, I mean come on, my mom drove a minivan! No offense too you either mom!) I LOVED my Tahoe! I love to sit up high in a car, I love all the great features the Tahoe offered and I loved the look. But after lots of thinking we came to the conclusion that It was just time to move on to the next chapter in our "family" life. It was becoming difficult lifting the baby seat into the car (not to mention that the poor kid was practically sideways as I was doing it), getting all 3 kids into their car seat buckles, and spending millions of dollars on gas to tote everyone around town. The Tahoe also needed new tires, had 95,000 miles on it, the warranty was up, and the speakers were going out. (You notice how I am still "rationalizing" the new purchase to myself)
So here we are.... driving a minivan... and honestly... really actually enjoying it!
And don't you worry, we still rock the punk music and pile the skateboards in the back, even in a MINIVAN!!
"Honey, I am telling you we don't need a minivan"

What's for Dinner?

PIZZA!... AGAIN
What else!!
I didn't realize how much pizza this family consumes until I opened the refrigerator tonight to put the leftover pizza inside. 3 times this week!! (But are you really surprised?) We all may just turn into a bunch of big peperoni's here pretty soon!
Someone really needs to teach this girl to cook!

Growing up too fast!

Not too long ago there was a lot of this...
More recently there has been some of this...And just the other day we found this... (and no we don't make him sleep in his clothes.. this was post nap) Do you think he is trying to tell me something? Time for the big boy bed? And just as I was getting used to everyone sleeping through the night in their OWN beds!

Injury updates

So after numerous Dr. appointments and second recommendations we end the week with a quick hand surgery and great recovery prognosis! After extending the original cut about an inch each way on Ryan's finger they found that the tendon was 60% severed. The Dr. was glad that they decided to go ahead and go in and explore because if left untreated the tendon could have snapped at any time leaving the finger stiff and unable to bend. A couple of large stitches to the tendon and a bunch more to close the incision and he is good to go. Oh... except for the pain. But hey, that's what narcotics are for right. So with a some physical therapy and about six weeks of healing he should be as good as new!
A picture from the scary first Orthopedic Surgeon's office we went to.(Referral from the ER) who come to find out doesn't even do tendon repair! Total wast of time... and a scary office. The CURTAIN separating two patient rooms. So much for patient confidentiality... the guy next door heard everything! And a totally weird vacuum looking apparatus sitting in the room.
And the kicker!... The LARGEST bio hazard trash can I have ever seen... sitting in a patient room. (And I work in a hospital!) Totally weird!! We did get a second recommendation and visited the Newport Orthopedic Institute where we found an awesome surgeon! Ryan before surgery... handled the IV like such a "big boy"! (He HATES that stuff and has been known to faint on occasion when having blood drawn) After surgery. Betadine stained hand and pretty out of it from anesthesia. Feeling good enough for a couple of bowls of captain crunch though!
As for Porter... he had his appointment with the orthopedic Dr. and is hanging in there. We were told that it sometimes takes 6 weeks to heal but in children it could only take 3 or so. Good news since he has been pretty bumbed just watching everyone else play and swim. He is learning to deal with using one hand/arm to get things done and doesn't seem to be in as much pain.
Thanks for all the well wishes, comments and thoughtful "treats" for these guys! I don't know how we would mannage without all the great support!!!

We continue to take things one day at a time around here... hoping to catch a break here sometime soon!
