So after numerous Dr. appointments and second recommendations we end the week with a quick hand surgery and great recovery prognosis! After extending the original cut about an inch each way on Ryan's finger they found that the tendon was 60% severed. The Dr. was glad that they decided to go ahead and go in and explore because if left untreated the tendon could have snapped at any time leaving the finger stiff and unable to bend. A couple of large stitches to the tendon and a bunch more to close the incision and he is good to go. Oh... except for the pain. But hey, that's what narcotics are for right. So with a some physical therapy and about six weeks of healing he should be as good as new!
A picture from the scary first Orthopedic Surgeon's office we went to.(Referral from the ER) who come to find out doesn't even do tendon repair! Total wast of time... and a scary office.
The CURTAIN separating two patient rooms. So much for patient confidentiality... the guy next door heard everything! And a totally weird vacuum looking apparatus sitting in the room.

And the kicker!... The LARGEST bio hazard trash can I have ever seen... sitting in a patient room. (And I work in a hospital!) Totally weird!!
We did get a second recommendation and visited the Newport Orthopedic Institute where we found an awesome surgeon!
Ryan before surgery... handled the IV like such a "big boy"! (He HATES that stuff and has been known to faint on occasion when having blood drawn)
After surgery. Betadine stained hand and pretty out of it from anesthesia.
Feeling good enough for a couple of bowls of captain crunch though!

As for Porter... he had his appointment with the orthopedic Dr. and is hanging in there. We were told that it sometimes takes 6 weeks to heal but in children it could only take 3 or so. Good news since he has been pretty bumbed just watching everyone else play and swim. He is learning to deal with using one hand/arm to get things done and doesn't seem to be in as much pain.
Thanks for all the well wishes, comments and thoughtful "treats" for these guys! I don't know how we would mannage without all the great support!!!
We continue to take things one day at a time around here... hoping to catch a break here sometime soon!
