One week down

It has been one whole week since little Tav arrived and I thought I would take a minute to look back on the weeks events. As most of you know I was supposed to be induced last Tuesday at 7:00am. I called the Hospital at 5:00am that morning to make sure there was a bed for me and sure enough... Labor and Delivery was full! So after being told to call back to check at 8:00am and then again at 10:00am we were finally given the green light to come in at 12:00 noon. My water was broken around 3:30pm and things started happening at lightning speed. I was able to get a wonderful epidural and labor progressed quickly. I dilated from a 6 to 10 in about 10 minutes. Tav did end up having the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and gave us a bit of a scare with a dipping heart rate. Luckily it only took a couple of pushes and Tav was born at 7:09pm! It was so great to finally see my sweet little guy and to hold him in my arms! Thanks to our wonderful nurses and a great OBGYN who took excellent care of us!!

The boys came to see us in hospital and I wasn't sure what their reactions would be. Porter was instantly in love with the baby and it was the sweetest thing to see him with Tav. I think he was a bit confused at first to see mommy's "still pregnant looking tummy" but at the same time to see the baby laying there. (How to explain to a 3yr old that mommy's "uterus" needs to shrink back? He thought the baby was in mommy's "tummy"... a whole other post!) Then there was Phearson who was just happy to look out the Hospital window. He did come over and yank the beanie off of Tav and rub the top of his head roughly for a minute. "Softly" has become a common word directed at Phearson this week and he is learning to love his brother.... slowly!

Loving?... His new baby brother

Just another typical family picture for us! Needless to say we are all adjusting to having a new baby in the house but are enjoying having our little man finally here. Night time has been interesting and we are all learning together. (Example- Night #1... Tav fussing because he is hungry... waking up Phearson who then thinks it is morning and ready to start the day.... Phearson finally put back into crib and screaming to get back out... wakes up Porter who yells for dad and is completely irritated that Pheason is screaming because he wants to sleep!... = The Whole Family Awake at 2:00am!! and poor dad yet to sleep at all that night!) It has been fun to say the least! I do want to thank my WONDERFUL hubby who pretty much took over night shift since we came home so mommy (who was VERY sore this time around and a little slower to recover) could rest and feel better! I owe you babe!

Tav had his first Dr. appt yesterday and is doing great. Weighing in at 6lbs and 13oz. He was pretty jaundice by day #4 and has been living under fluorescent lights 24hrs a day since Saturday. Today he will be able to come out of the lights. I am so excited to have my baby to hold and cuddle once again!!

What would you look like after days under fluorescent lights? Porter still loving his baby brother

Here are just a few other "fun" happenings that are going on around our house. Did I mention that there is a battle for attention going on in our home?

Poor Daddy brought to the ground after being hit unexpectedly in the "privates" while playing with Phearson...

...by this guy. And when asked why he did it, he simply answered "I wanted you to put Phearson down"

Half dressed Phearson drinking water off the ground... what, mom and dad to busy to get him a cup?

We love our not so little family!

"Nesting"

So I feel like I have been "Nesting" now for a few weeks but who would have thought that It would spread to my sweet "manly" husband too. All of the sudden things that needed to be done around the house (for months now) are quickly getting done... and not by my begging, nagging or pleading. I can't be more happy about it! Within the last week or two Ryan has put up a new front door, put in a new front window, helped me recover our living room valance, cleaned out the garage, and painted and retouched the interior house! I love it! We may have gone a little crazy with paint color for the accent wall in the living room (we have never been too afraid to use color) but it has been fun! Now we just wait for our new baby to fill our rejuvenated little nest!

What a Day!

So just another quick update for those of you who haven't already heard. I had my amniocentesis done this morning at 8:45 (and not too bad I should say-quick and with minimal discomfort). I went for fetal monitoring right afterwards where I was given the initial results of the amnio which showed that the baby's lungs are not yet mature. I was told that the amniotic fluid would then be sent to UCI where they would perform another more extensive test and that I should receive a call later this evening from my Dr. with the final result. So after waiting all day and not hearing anything I finally placed a call to Labor and Delivery at 8:30 tonight to find out what I should do about my scheduled induction for 7:00am tomorrow. I was told that the test came back and that things looked good but that they would place a call to my Dr. to find out for sure. I received a call back by L&D and was told that they hadn't heard from the Dr. but that the tests "looked good" and to go ahead and come in as planned for the induction. We were a bit surprised but nevertheless excited. Phone calls placed and getting things in order.... only to receive ANOTHER phone call from the Dr. this time. And guess what... YEP... it happened... the final results from UCI also show that the baby's lungs are not yet mature enough to go ahead and induce labor. Sigh! Soooooo induction has been rescheduled until next Tuesday... baby ticker has been reset and we continue on as usual. Just gonna keep this baby cooking for a bit longer. What a day... what a ride! Thanks to everyone for all the calls, texts and support!!! It has been a bumpy one but this roller coaster apparently isn't over yet!!

OUCH!

The weather here the last couple of days has really heated things up so Friday evening we decided that it would be fun to go down to Seal Beach and go for a stroll along the pier and take advantage of the warm weather. We headed down to the beach with the Hess family and met up with Todd, Deborah and kids.
Everyone was having a good time until....

Porter and the kids were climbing/walking on some wooden pillars (planter) where Porter slipped and scraped the whole inside of his upper leg. Needless to say he was not a very happy little boy! (And that is putting it lightly!) This has probably been the worst injury yet for Porter and we are hoping that there will not be more of this magnitude or worse. We have come to find out that our little/big man isn't so tuff when it comes to this stuff!

He is doing much better today! We even got him into a bath this morning... scraped leg and all!

Isn't it fun being a little boy!

Another False Alarm

Can I just start off by saying that "I AM SOOO OVER THIS"! Just a quick update tonight about baby. We just got home from the Hospital... again! We started another marathon of contractions this morning around 5:00am which lasted all day long. I went to my scheduled Fetal Monitoring appointment this afternoon which to no surprise showed that I was having contractions 4-5 minutes apart. Soooo once again I was sent down to Labor and Delivery to be "checked out" and for further monitoring. I am no more dilated than I was a week ago at the Dr. office so after spending the afternoon/evening at the Hospital ...we were sent home. Did I mention that I am officially so over being pregnant? Maybe I should clarify... so over the frequent Dr. appointments, fetal monitoring, ultrasounds, sleepless nights, hugeness and oh yea... CONTRACTIONS! So here we are again. The end of another day, mom and baby still as one, a worried daddy and two, confused(as to why mom and dad are never around) little boys! Back to plan A. Amniocentesis on Monday and induction scheduled for Tuesday.
One thing I can't complain about is the yummy home made chocolate chip cookies we enjoyed (courtsey of Robin) when picking up the kids tonight! A good way to end a not so good day! They were Delish!!

Thanks!!

A Stinky Confession

Quick Potty Training Review...
So I thought we had this well under control.... until today....
Porter: "Mom! Mom!" (Running into the house to find me, excited and soooo proud!)
Mom: "What Porter?"
Porter: "I just went poop behind the garage!" (So proudly)
Mom: "What!?"(Caught totally off guard)
Porter: "I just went poop behind the garage like Lexie!" (Our dog)
Mom: "Why!?" (Still a little confused)
Porter: "Just like Lexie does" (Not understanding my lack of excitement)
Mom: "Did you wipe?"
Porter: "Oh yea!" (Appearing stunned and a bit frantic) Running off to the bathroom!
Note to self... and for all you other parents out there...
POTTY TRAINING 101
1. Remember to teach your children that the only appropriate place to "poop poo" is in the toilet
2. The importance of immediate wipege after "poop poo" is complete
Apparently we must have missed these concepts in our potty training sessions! OOPS!

April Fools!

I have learned a few things now about this new baby coming to us. For one, he could probably join the circus some day and be very successful. I know this because of all the amazing tumbling and acrobatics he does inside me continuously. Secondly, it appears that he is going to be a jokester. He played a pretty good ole April fools trick on me today. It all started about 3:00am this morning when I was awakened (after FINALLY dozing off ) with some mighty strong contractions. I thought to myself... well here we go! I talked myself into waiting it out for "an hour" just to make sure the contractions continued and since the rest of the house was sound asleep. I layed there in bed with a million thoughts racing through my head about how my bag for the hospital wasn't packed yet, my floors needed to be cleaned, dishes done... I'm talking complete panic was setting in as I thought about all the laundry that I was going to do that day and that I didn't even have any clean clothes to take or wear to the hospital. After panting through contractions for about 45min with my sweet husband sleeping soundly next to me, the contractions started to decrease and I actually fell back to sleep. Whew!!! Only to wake up at about 6:15 to Phearson wide awake and ready to start his day. And yes... they were back... "THE CONTRACTIONS", not quiet as bad this time but very regular. So up I was, breakfast was served, kids bathed and Porter to school. I had convinced myself that today was probably going to be the day and I was going to suck it up, get my stuff together and be ready. After a quick last minute run to Target my bag was backed, floors cleaned, laundry in the works and I had made my peace with having this baby today.
I think I was even a little excited. (Photo by Porter this am)
So I put the call into the Dr. before picking up Porter from school. Long story short... they told me I could either head down to Labor & Delivery to be monitored or lye down, drink a bunch more water and wait it out at home until the contractions became intolerable. So at the risk of just being sent home from the hosp. I did the latter. (Thanks to my mother and sister in law for taking the kids, AGAIN!) The contractions did eventually dwindle. They still remain off and on tonight but "tolerable". So here we are at the end of the day... Mom and baby still one! And mom completely exhausted! Just another day! April Fools to me!
